Our brand umabi is born from a passion to share with the world the delicious and beautiful aspects of Japan through upcycled skincare products.

The name combines “umami (旨味),” the essence of flavor, and “bi (美),” meaning beauty.

Upcycling involves transforming materials that would typically be discarded into new products with added value through design and creativity.

We source ingredients from Japan, focusing on vegetables, fruits, flowers that are deemed ugly-looking and/or unmarketable, as well as nutrient-rich byproducts from processing and manufacturing foods. Our mission is to extract nutritious components for your skin from these materials and create made-in-Japan upcycled skincare products. We are committed to delivering gentle skincare solutions that are kind both to your skin and our planet.

At umabi, we actively incorporate not only upcycled materials but also ethical ingredients into our products.

We ensure our products are being kind to people, society, and the environment by using ingredients of which revenue supports initiatives aimed at improving the environment.

This commitment to responsible production extends beyond our formulations to our packaging as well. For instance, our cosmetic packaging utilizes “kome-kami” paper, an upcycled paper made from inedible rice, as a chemical alternative.

Our brand philosophy emphasizes sustainability both inside and out, ensuring that every aspect of our product development aligns with our values.
